The heat treatment (Thermowood) process, our processing lines and our approach to quality control.
How long timber lasts outdoors depends as much on how it is processed as on the species chosen. Our approach is to increase durability without disturbing the natural structure of the wood.
What is heat treatment (Thermowood)?
Heat treatment means processing timber at high temperature in a steam atmosphere, to a controlled programme. No chemicals are used at any point — the durability comes entirely from what heat and steam do to the cell structure.
How It Works
The heat treatment process

Heating and drying
The timber is heated in stages and its moisture content brought down under control.

Heat treatment phase
Temperature is raised to the level set for the product class and held there; the hygroscopic structure of the cell wall changes.

Cooling and conditioning
The timber is cooled under control and conditioned to the equilibrium moisture content of its end environment.

Machinery and processing lines
Our plant runs 3 moulding machines, 1 opti-cut line and a vertical laminating press. After heat treatment, products are planed, moulded, grooved and surface-finished on our own lines.
Anti-slip grooving on decking profiles, interlocking details on cladding profiles and panelling sections are all produced to the tolerances the project requires.
Kiln capacity
With 9 conventional and 2 vacuum kilns we hold a monthly kiln capacity of 1,200 m³.
Quality control
Every batch is checked for moisture content, dimensional tolerance and surface finish. Grading rests on measurable data as well as visual criteria, so no visible difference appears between batches of the same product.
